Acid Reflux Remedy Without Medication
If you suffer from the pain and burning of acid reflux, you probably have wondered if there is a remedy for your
symptoms other than taking medication. Fortunately, there are measures you can take to ease your discomfort.
First of all, what is acid reflux and why do many people suffer from the condition? Acid reflux occurs when the
contents of your stomach travel back up your esophagus, the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. This
often happens as a result of overeating, eating foods or drinking liquids that produce a lot of acid, or living a
high stress lifestyle – without much exercise or proper diet. Sounds like a lot of people in our fast paced
society, doesn’t it?
Years of quickly shovelling large amounts of food and drink into our bodies, including greasy fast food, leads
to the all too common acid reflux discomfort that plagues many of us. But there are some simple remedies that may
help alleviate the symptoms. It may take some trial and error until you find the ones that work for you, but the
results will be worth the effort. Of course, cutting out food and beverages that you know set off your symptoms is
the first step.
Apple Cider Vinegar works for many people. You may be tempted to add honey to improve the taste, but honey
triggers acid reflux. Just a teaspoon of cider vinegar in a small glass of water might improve your acidic system
and keep you from overeating. Since it has the potential to aggravate sensitive stomachs, don’t go overboard and
drink glass after glass. Too much of anything, no matter how good, can cause problems.
There are a number of other possible remedies you can try as well. Depending on the person, these have varying
degrees of effectiveness. Try cottage cheese, pickle juice, apples, aloe vera juice, garlic, or slippery elm.
Another remedy is baking soda mixed in water, but too much baking soda can have a negative effect on your health. A
non-food remedy is to sleep either with a wedge pillow to elevate your head or to raise the entire head of your bed
a few inches. Sleeping on your left side can also help acid reflux symptoms.
The best acid reflux remedy is to stop eating large meals, especially close to bedtime. Eating more frequently,
but not before you go to sleep, will do much to help your symptoms. Before you know it, you will be sleeping well
and waking up to a pain free future.
